Situated on a very steep block, the existing Art Deco home was in good but original condition. This project consisted of significant internal and external renovation works for a young family and was completed over two stages. It was important that the new works were contemporary yet respectful of the detailing found in the home. The biggest challenge to overcome was that the functional areas of the house were completely isolated from the rest of the living spaces, connected by a maze of hallways and different floor levels with little connection to the outdoor. The project scope included new kitchen, laundry, family bathroom, first floor master bedroom with ensuite and walk in robe, replacement of an existing staircase, complete redesign the front entry portico and significant hard landscaping in the backyard. The final result is a light and bright modern renovation with a new indoor – outdoor connection not previously realised.
